4-6 Weeks of Hair Growth
Microlocs are a delicate, low-maintenance loc style that can be maintained with a few simple steps:
Washing
Washing microlocs regularly prevents product buildup and helps them mature faster. You can wash them every four weeks for the first six months after installation, or add a mid-schedule wash if they start to settle. Use a clarifying shampoo to prevent buildup, and avoid using too much product when retwisting.
Re-twisting or re-interlocking
Depending on how fast your hair grows, you may need to re-twist or re-interlock your locs every four to eight weeks to maintain their shape. When retwisting, avoid using too much product to prevent buildup on your scalp and dreads.
Protecting
To keep your microlocs from drying out, you can use a moisturizing spray and a lightweight hair oil or leave-in conditioner on top. You can also sleep with a silk or satin bonnet and pillowcase to prevent breakage and unraveling from rough materials like cotton. Wrapping your locs at night can also help keep your style in place and prevent frizz and tangling.
